Soundies & Films
What is
referred to as SOUNDIES could be considered the father of the MTV music
videos. Produced during the1940's. Soundies were made to be seen on
self-contained, coin-operated, video jukeboxes called Panoram. These
could be found in nightclubs, bars, restaurants, etc. Eight Soundies on
each reel and filmed in reverse, featuring a variety of musical
performances, were usually spliced together on a reel which was a
continuous loop.
The Panoram Jukebox , would later be the building block for RCA's 16mm
projector used in the jukebox to project the films on a screen up
above. The Mills jukebox people in California partnered with Jimmy
Roosevelt - President Franklin's son and his job was to create 2500
songs. It lasted about four years.
I have been collecting these original films for several years and have
about 800 so far . I have had them converted to digital and several
DVD's have been released by two companies in Europe . I also have
copies of the original soundie book that lists all the songs and
artists and producers and year of production .

title.
The book has sold on Ebay in the past for as much as $250.
